Angela Zeman is author of The Witch and the Borscht Pearl, a Mrs. Risk mystery novel, published by Pendulum Press, available in trade paperback from most bookstores and Amazon. Angela is currently writing a new thriller and has begun planning three new short story series. She also co-authors non-fiction articles about the mystery field with her husband, Barry Zeman, an acknowledged authority on the history of the mystery and book collecting. Although the Mrs. Risk series takes place on Long Island, New York, the Zemans live in New York City. Angela organized and edited the 2001 Mystery Writers of America’s Edgar Awards Annual for their May 3 banquet and chaired the 2001 Best Short Story committee. Over the years she has served MWA in various capacities, most notably on the New York Regional and National Board of Directors and twice as Chairperson of the Edgar Symposium. from Mom, Apple Pie, and Murder, edited by Nancy Pickard For filling: In sauce pan combine 1/4 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cornstarch (already dissolved in 1/3 cup cold water.) Stir in 1 loosely packed cup of small (peeled) apple chunks, plus 1/2 cup all natural applesauce. Cook, stirring constantly, till thickened and bubbly and apples are soft. Tart apples give best results. Stir in brandy to taste, not to exceed 1/4 cup.
To assemble: Using 24 Baby Crepes (see below) spread 1 tablespoon filling on unbrowned side of each crepe, leaving 1/4-inch rim around edge. Roll up as for jelly roll. Place seam side down in greased 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch baking pan. Bake, covered, at 350° for 10 minutes. Mix 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon; sprinkle over crepes. Makes 24.
